Backlinks are the incoming links which come to a webpage. When a webpage links to some other page, it is referred to as a backlink. Earlier, backlinks were the main factor behind a website’s ranking. A page which has many backlinks used to have a high ranking on all search engines which are used on a regular basis such as Google and Bing. It holds true to a great extent.
When search engines which calculate the importance of a site to a keyword, they focus on the number of quality inbound links to that site. Therefore, you should not be satisfied with only inbound links. Check the quality of inbound links also.
A search engine reflects on the content of sites for judging a link’s quality. When inbound links to your site come from other sites and have content which is similar to your site, these inbound links will be of greater importance to your site. If you come across inbound likes are found on sites which are not related to content, they have lesser importance. The greater the importance of inbound links, the better will be their quality.
For instance, in case the webmaster has a website which is about a hotel and receives a backlink from some other site related to hospitality, then it would have higher significance in the assessment of a search engine as compared to that of a site of a resort. The greater the relevant a site is which links back to your site, the higher will be the quality of backlink.
